The Aphorisms of Kherishdar is a collection of short stories, called fil ekain, or "incense stories" by the Ai-Naidar, that introduces Farren Nai'Sheviet-osulkedi, the Calligrapher, and his world and culture through a series of interactions with others. The Aphorisms, along with The Admonishments of Kherishdar, lead up to the events of Black Blossom, the novel-length work set in Kherishdar.

The Aphorisms was published independently in 2007 as a crowdfunded web-serial. Readers and fans paid professional rates for both the stories and paintings that adorn the book.

BlurbEdit

For the Ai-Naidar, a species of slim, gracile aliens, caste and tradition are not the shackles that imprison the spirit but the silences that make sense of the music of their lives. The Aphorisms of Kherishdar collects 25 short tales about what it is to have an Ai-Naidari soul: to find comfort in tradition, law and structure; to revere interdependence over individualism; to know one's place... to always have one. Also includes 5 full-color painted illustrations.
